BarCamp Malaysia

What is BarCamp about?

BarCamp is a social event where users generate their own contents for the conference. It is more like web2.0 in real life.

How did BarCamp came about?

The name “BarCamp” is a playful allusion to the event’s origins, with reference to the hacker slang term, foobar: BarCamp arose as a spin-off of Foo Camp, an annual invitation-only participant driven conference hosted by open source publishing luminary Tim O’Reilly. Unlike the invitation-only Foo Camp, BarCamp is Free for anyone to participate and contribute.

Where was the first BarCamp ever?

The first ever BarCamp was organized less than a week in Socialtext’s office in Palo Alto on the 19th to 21st August 2005. It attracted over 200 barcampers.
